Metabolic Approved 2009-07-29

Colcrys is an alkaloid used to prevent and manage gout flares in adults. It also helps patients with Familial Mediterranean fever, including adults and children as young as four. This medication is typically used at the first sign of a gout attack or as a long-term preventative measure to reduce the frequency of flares.

How COLCRYS Works

This drug works by inhibiting the polymerization of β-tubulin into microtubules, which disrupts the internal structure of cells. This process prevents neutrophils from activating and migrating to areas of inflammation, while also potentially interfering with the assembly of the inflammasome complex to reduce the activation of interleukin-1β.
