DAPTOMYCIN IN 0.9% SODIUM CHLORIDE (daptomycin)

Infectious Disease Approved 2022-01-25

DAPTOMYCIN IN 0.9% SODIUM CHLORIDE is indicated for the treatment of Complicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections; Staphylococcus Aureus Bloodstream Infection; Infective Endocarditis.

Source: FDA Label • Baxter • Lipopeptide Antibacterial

How DAPTOMYCIN IN 0.9% SODIUM CHLORIDE Works

Daptomycin binds to bacterial cell membranes in a calcium-dependent manner, inserting its lipophilic tail into the cytoplasmic membrane. This causes rapid depolarization of the membrane potential and the subsequent leakage of intracellular ions (primarily potassium). This disruption of membrane function inhibits DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis, resulting in rapid, concentration-dependent bacterial cell death (bactericidal activity).
