How DROSPIRENONE AND ETHINYL ESTRADIOL Works

This medication is a combined oral contraceptive that lowers the risk of pregnancy primarily by suppressing ovulation. By delivering a combination of the progestin drospirenone and the estrogen ethinyl estradiol, the drug inhibits the hormonal processes required to release an egg from the ovary. This suppression of the menstrual cycle's ovulatory phase serves as the principal mechanism for preventing conception.
