How PRILOCAINE HYDROCHLORIDE AND EPINEPHRINE BITARTRATE Works

Articaine HCl is an amide local anesthetic that inhibits the generation and conduction of nerve impulses. It achieves this by increasing the threshold for electrical excitation in the nerve, slowing the propagation of the nerve impulse, and reducing the rate of rise of the action potential. Epinephrine is included as a vasoconstrictor to slow the systemic absorption of articaine, thereby prolonging the duration of the local anesthetic effect and maintaining higher local tissue concentrations.
