SFROWASA is indicated for the treatment of Ulcerative Colitis.
How SFROWASA Works
The exact mechanism of action of mesalamine is not fully understood but is believed to exert a topical anti-inflammatory effect on colonic epithelial cells. It appears to diminish inflammation by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase pathway (reducing prostaglandin production) and the lipoxygenase pathway (reducing the production of leukotrienes and hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids) within the colon mucosa.
