VANOS (fluocinonide)

Corticosteroid Hormone Receptor Agonists
Dermatology Approved 2005-02-11

Vanos (fluocinonide) Cream, 0.1% is a high-potency topical corticosteroid indicated for the relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses in patients 12 years of age or older. Usage should be limited to two consecutive weeks and a total dosage not exceeding 60 g per week due to the risk of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression. The drug is not for use on the face, groin, or axillae, and is specifically not recommended for the treatment of rosacea or perioral dermatitis.

How VANOS Works

The precise mechanism of action of Vanos Cream in treating corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses remains unknown. As a corticosteroid, fluocinonide is thought to exert anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by modulating cellular signaling, immune function, and protein regulation. These actions collectively inhibit the release of inflammatory mediators and stabilize cellular membranes.
