VUSION (miconazole nitrate)

Infectious Disease Approved 2006-02-16

Vusion is a topical ointment indicated for the adjunctive treatment of diaper dermatitis in immunocompetent pediatric patients 4 weeks and older when the condition is complicated by documented candidiasis. Diagnosis must be established by microscopic evidence (pseudohyphae and/or budding yeast), as a positive fungal culture alone is insufficient. It should be used as part of a treatment regimen that includes frequent diaper changes and gentle cleansing. Vusion is not indicated for the prevention of diaper dermatitis, as prophylactic use may lead to drug resistance.

How VUSION Works

Vusion contains miconazole nitrate, an antifungal agent that addresses the underlying candidal infection. While miconazole provides antifungal activity, the exact mechanism of action for the zinc oxide and white petrolatum components in the adjunctive treatment of diaper dermatitis remains unknown.
