CNS Approved 2008-08-15

XENAZINE is indicated for the treatment of Chorea; Huntington's Disease.

Source: FDA Label • BAUSCH • Vesicular Monoamine Transporter 2 Inhibitor

How XENAZINE Works

Tetrabenazine acts as a reversible inhibitor of the human vesicular monoamine transporter type 2 (VMAT2). This inhibition prevents the uptake of monoamines (including dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, and histamine) into synaptic vesicles, leading to a depletion of monoamine stores in nerve terminals and a subsequent reduction in choreiform movements.
