ASMANEX HFA (mometasone furoate)
Asmanex HFA is a corticosteroid used for the long-term management of asthma in adults and children as young as five. It helps patients by providing preventative therapy to keep symptoms under control over time. It is important to note that this medication does not provide immediate relief for sudden breathing problems like acute bronchospasm.
How ASMANEX HFA Works
Mometasone furoate is a potent corticosteroid with significant anti-inflammatory activity. It works by inhibiting multiple cell types (including mast cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, and lymphocytes) and mediators (such as histamine, eicosanoids, leukotrienes, and cytokines) involved in the inflammatory and asthmatic response. Mometasone furoate exhibits a high binding affinity for the human glucocorticoid receptor—notably higher than dexamethasone, budesonide, and fluticasone in vitro—which facilitates its role in reducing airway inflammation and hyperreactivity.
