SPIRIVA RESPIMAT (tiotropium bromide)
Spiriva Respimat is a daily medication used for the long-term management of breathing issues in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It also helps patients with asthma who are at least 6 years old by providing ongoing maintenance of their symptoms. While it helps reduce the frequency of COPD flare-ups, it is not used for the immediate relief of sudden breathing attacks.
How SPIRIVA RESPIMAT Works
This drug works by blocking M3-receptors in the smooth muscle of the airways, which triggers the relaxation of these muscles to improve airflow. As a long-acting antimuscarinic agent, it provides a site-specific effect that prevents airway constriction for more than 24 hours.
