AZMIRO (testosterone cypionate)

Trial Activity: Stable 11 active trials
Endocrine Approved 2022-06-02

AZMIRO (testosterone cypionate) is an androgen indicated for testosterone replacement therapy in males with conditions associated with a deficiency or absence of endogenous testosterone. This includes primary hypogonadism (testicular failure due to conditions such as cryptorchidism, Klinefelter’s syndrome, or toxic damage from chemotherapy, alcohol, or heavy metals) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (pituitary-hypothalamic injury from tumors, trauma, or radiation). **Limitations of Use:** Safety and efficacy have not been established in men with "age-related hypogonadism" or in pediatric patients under 12 years of age.

How AZMIRO Works

AZMIRO delivers exogenous testosterone, which acts as a replacement for endogenous androgens. Testosterone and its metabolite, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), are responsible for the normal growth and development of male sex organs and the maintenance of secondary sex characteristics. These effects include the maturation of the prostate, seminal vesicles, and scrotum; the development of male hair distribution; laryngeal enlargement; and the maintenance of lean muscle mass and fat distribution. AZMIRO restores testosterone levels in patients where the testes or the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis fail to produce sufficient hormone.

How We Calculate These Metrics

Trial Activity Stage

Measures the current development activity pattern based on trial phases, status, and trends. Important: This measures R&D activity, not commercial lifecycle.

Trial statuses: "Active" means recruiting or ongoing. "Completed" means reached planned endpoint. "Terminated" means stopped early—often due to safety, efficacy, or business reasons.

  • Growth: High proportion of early-phase trials (Phase 1/2), active development
  • Expansion: Significant Phase 3 activity, approaching or pursuing approvals
  • Mature: Substantial Phase 4 post-marketing studies
  • Stable: Mixed phase distribution, steady development
  • Declining: Low active trial ratio, reduced R&D investment
