BRINZOLAMIDE
Brinzolamide is an ophthalmic medication used to lower high pressure inside the eye. It helps patients with conditions like ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma. By reducing this pressure, the drug helps manage a primary risk factor for optic nerve damage and the loss of visual fields.
How BRINZOLAMIDE Works
This medication works by inhibiting the enzyme carbonic anhydrase II within the ciliary processes of the eye. This action slows the formation of bicarbonate ions, which in turn reduces the transport of sodium and fluid. Consequently, the eye produces less aqueous humor, leading to a decrease in intraocular pressure.
