CANGRELOR

P2Y12 Receptor Antagonists
Cardiovascular Approved 2025-08-11

Cangrelor is a medication used during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to help prevent complications during the procedure. It helps patients by lowering the risk of heart attacks, the formation of blood clots in stents, and the need for repeat coronary procedures. This drug is specifically used for individuals who have not yet been treated with other P2Y12 platelet inhibitors or certain other blood-thinning medications like glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors.

How CANGRELOR Works

This drug works by selectively and reversibly binding to the P2Y12 receptor on platelets. By blocking this receptor, it prevents ADP from activating the platelets and causing them to clump together. This action stops the signaling process that leads to platelet aggregation during medical procedures.
