How CEFAZOLIN IN DEXTROSE Works
Cefazolin is a bactericidal agent that acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to one or more penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which in turn inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls, leading to cell lysis. As a first-generation cephalosporin, it is primarily active against gram-positive cocci and select gram-negative bacilli.
