FROVA (frovatriptan succinate)
Frova (frovatriptan succinate) is a serotonin (5-HT 1B/1D) receptor agonist indicated for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults. The medication is intended for use only after a clear diagnosis of migraine has been established and is not indicated for the prophylactic therapy of migraine. It is specifically approved for the treatment of individual migraine attacks and has not been established as safe or effective for cluster headaches.
How FROVA Works
Frovatriptan binds with high affinity to 5-HT 1B/1D receptors to produce its therapeutic effect. It acts as an agonist at these receptors located on intracranial blood vessels and sensory nerves of the trigeminal system. This activity results in the constriction of cranial vessels and the inhibition of the release of pro-inflammatory neuropeptides.
