How LIKMEZ Works

Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole prodrug that exerts its effects in anaerobic environments. It is reduced by low-redox-potential electron transport proteins to form reactive intermediate metabolites. These intermediates cause DNA strand breakage and inhibit nucleic acid synthesis, resulting in the death of susceptible protozoa and anaerobic bacteria.
