NEXTERONE (amiodarone hydrochloride)

Cardiovascular Approved 2008-12-24

Nexterone is an antiarrhythmic medication used to manage life-threatening heart rhythm disturbances in patients who have not responded to other therapies. It helps patients with frequently recurring ventricular fibrillation and unstable ventricular tachycardia by stabilizing the heart's electrical activity. This premixed injection is used both to start immediate treatment and to help prevent future episodes of these dangerous arrhythmias.

How NEXTERONE Works

Nexterone works by blocking various ion channels in the heart, including sodium, potassium, and calcium channels, which slows electrical conduction and prolongs the heart's resting period. It also exerts an antisympathetic effect and acts as a vasodilator, which helps reduce the overall workload and oxygen consumption of the heart muscle. These combined actions help stabilize the heart's rhythm and prevent rapid, irregular beats.
