NUVESSA (metronidazole)

Infectious Disease Approved 2014-03-24

NUVESSA is indicated for the treatment of Bacterial Vaginosis.

Source: FDA Label • CHEMO RESEARCH SL • Nitroimidazole Antimicrobial

How NUVESSA Works

Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antimicrobial that exerts its effect by entering the cells of susceptible anaerobic bacteria. The nitro group of the molecule is reduced to form unstable, reactive intermediates that interact with intracellular targets, including DNA. This results in the inhibition of nucleic acid synthesis and subsequent cell death.
