POSACONAZOLE
Posaconazole delayed-release tablets are indicated for the prophylaxis of invasive *Aspergillus* and *Candida* infections in patients at high risk due to being severely immunocompromised. This includes hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients with graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and patients with hematologic malignancies experiencing prolonged neutropenia from chemotherapy. This specific formulation is indicated for adults and pediatric patients aged 2 years and older who weigh more than 40 kg.
How POSACONAZOLE Works
Posaconazole is an azole antifungal agent. It works by inhibiting the enzyme lanosterol 14α-demethylase, which catalyzes a critical step in the biosynthesis of ergosterol. The resulting depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of methylated sterol precursors disrupts the structure and specialized functions of the fungal cell membrane, thereby inhibiting fungal growth.
