PROTONIX IV (pantoprazole sodium)

Gastrointestinal Approved 2001-03-22

Protonix IV helps adults manage gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and a history of erosive esophagitis. It is used for short-term care, specifically for up to 10 days. Additionally, it treats pathological hypersecretory conditions like Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome in adult patients.

How PROTONIX IV Works

This drug works by covalently binding to the (H+, K+)-ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells. This binding suppresses the final step of gastric acid production, which inhibits both basal and stimulated acid secretion. The resulting effect on stomach acid lasts for more than 24 hours.
