How TOLAK Works
** Fluorouracil is a nucleoside metabolic inhibitor that interferes with DNA synthesis and, to a lesser extent, inhibits RNA formation. It specifically blocks the methylation of deoxyuridylic acid to thymidylic acid within the anabolic pathway. This interference creates a thymine deficiency, leading to unbalanced cell growth and eventual cell death. These effects are most pronounced in rapidly proliferating cells—such as those found in actinic keratosis lesions—which take up fluorouracil at a higher rate than healthy tissue.
