VIMPAT (lacosamide)
VIMPAT is indicated for the treatment of Partial-Onset Seizures; Generalized Tonic-Clonic Seizures.
How VIMPAT Works
While the precise mechanism in humans is not fully understood, lacosamide has been shown in studies to selectively enhance the slow inactivation of voltage-gated sodium channels. This biological activity results in the stabilization of hyperexcitable neuronal membranes. By stabilizing these membranes, the medication inhibits the repetitive neuronal firing associated with seizure activity.
