Adcirca helps patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) improve their physical exercise capacity. It is primarily used for individuals with WHO Group 1 PAH, including those with idiopathic or heritable forms of the disease or PAH associated with connective tissue disorders. This medication is typically prescribed for patients experiencing functional symptoms that limit their daily activity levels.
How ADCIRCA Works
This drug works by blocking phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), the enzyme responsible for breaking down a messenger called cGMP. By increasing cGMP levels in the pulmonary vascular smooth muscle, the medication promotes relaxation and vasodilation of the blood vessels in the lungs.
