CARDENE IN 0.86% SODIUM CHLORIDE IN PLASTIC CONTAINER (nicardipine hydrochloride)
Cardene (Nicardipine Hydrochloride) in 0.86% Sodium Chloride is indicated for the short-term treatment of hypertension when oral therapy is not feasible or desirable. It is intended for rapid blood pressure control in acute settings. Clinicians should titrate the infusion rate to achieve the desired blood pressure response, as the therapeutic effect is dose-dependent.
How CARDENE IN 0.86% SODIUM CHLORIDE IN PLASTIC CONTAINER Works
Nicardipine is a calcium ion antagonist (slow channel blocker) that inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into cardiac and vascular smooth muscle. It is significantly more selective for vascular smooth muscle than for cardiac muscle. By relaxing vascular smooth muscle, it reduces systemic vascular resistance (afterload), leading to a decrease in blood pressure with little to no negative impact on myocardial contractility (inotropic effect).
