FEMRING (estradiol acetate)

Women's Health Approved 2003-03-20

Femring is an estrogen therapy used for women experiencing moderate to severe symptoms associated with menopause. It helps patients with vasomotor symptoms as well as physical changes like vulvar and vaginal atrophy. This medication provides a source of estradiol to replace the natural decline in estrogen levels that occurs after the ovaries stop producing it.

How FEMRING Works

This drug works by binding to nuclear receptors in tissues that respond to estrogen, mimicking the effects of naturally occurring estradiol. By activating these receptors, it helps regulate the pituitary gland's secretion of hormones like luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. This process reduces the high levels of these hormones typically found in postmenopausal women.
