FROVATRIPTAN SUCCINATE

CNS Approved 2014-08-28

Frovatriptan succinate is a serotonin (5-HT 1B/1D) receptor agonist indicated for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adult patients. The medication is intended for use only after a clear diagnosis of migraine has been established and is not indicated for the prophylactic therapy of migraine. It is specifically designed to treat individual migraine attacks rather than for the treatment of cluster headaches.

How FROVATRIPTAN SUCCINATE Works

Frovatriptan functions by binding with high affinity to 5-HT 1B/1D receptors. This agonist activity affects the intracranial blood vessels and the sensory nerves within the trigeminal system. These actions result in the constriction of cranial vessels and the inhibition of the release of pro-inflammatory neuropeptides, which is thought to provide therapeutic relief during a migraine.
