LIALDA (mesalamine)

Immunology Approved 2007-01-16

LIALDA is indicated for the treatment of Ulcerative Colitis.

Source: FDA Label • Takeda • Aminosalicylate

How LIALDA Works

While the exact mechanism of Lialda is not fully understood, it is believed to exert a topical anti-inflammatory effect directly on colonic epithelial cells. It may diminish inflammation by blocking the cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways, thereby inhibiting the production of prostaglandins and other arachidonic acid metabolites that are typically elevated in the colonic tissue of patients with ulcerative colitis.
