NINLARO (ixazomib citrate)

Trial Activity: Stable 27 active trials
Oncology Approved 2015-11-20

Ninlaro helps patients with multiple myeloma who have already received at least one previous therapy. It is used as part of a combination regimen alongside lenalidomide and dexamethasone to manage the cancer after earlier treatments. This medication is specifically for those who have relapsed and is not recommended for newly diagnosed patients or for use as a maintenance therapy.

How NINLARO Works

This drug works by reversibly binding to and inhibiting the proteasome, specifically targeting the chymotrypsin-like activity of the beta 5 subunit. By blocking this cellular process, the medication triggers programmed cell death in myeloma cells, including those that have become resistant to other therapies.

How We Calculate These Metrics

Trial Activity Stage

Measures the current development activity pattern based on trial phases, status, and trends. Important: This measures R&D activity, not commercial lifecycle.

Trial statuses: "Active" means recruiting or ongoing. "Completed" means reached planned endpoint. "Terminated" means stopped early—often due to safety, efficacy, or business reasons.

  • Growth: High proportion of early-phase trials (Phase 1/2), active development
  • Expansion: Significant Phase 3 activity, approaching or pursuing approvals
  • Mature: Substantial Phase 4 post-marketing studies
  • Stable: Mixed phase distribution, steady development
  • Declining: Low active trial ratio, reduced R&D investment
