NITROFURANTOIN
NITROFURANTOIN is indicated for the treatment of Urinary Tract Infection.
How NITROFURANTOIN Works
Nitrofurantoin is a multi-target antibacterial agent. It is reduced by bacterial flavoproteins (nitrofuran reductase) to reactive intermediates. These intermediates attack bacterial ribosomal proteins, DNA, RNA, and enzymes involved in aerobic energy metabolism. This non-specific bombardment of multiple vital bacterial systems inhibits protein and cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death and contributing to the low rate of bacterial resistance to the drug.
