TERIPARATIDE

Teriparatide treats osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men who are at a high risk for fractures or who have not had success with other therapies. It helps patients with bone loss resulting from long-term steroid use, specifically those taking daily doses of prednisone or similar medications. This drug is used to increase bone mass and reduce the risk of both vertebral and nonvertebral fractures.

How TERIPARATIDE Works

As a parathyroid hormone analog, this medication works by binding to specific receptors that regulate calcium and phosphate metabolism. When administered once daily, it stimulates new bone formation by promoting the activity of bone-building cells over those that break bone down. This process increases skeletal mass and improves bone strength in both the inner and outer layers of the bone.
