CONJUGATED ESTROGENS (estrogens, conjugated)
Conjugated estrogens are a mixture of hormones used to manage moderate to severe menopause symptoms, including hot flashes and vaginal changes. They also help patients with low estrogen levels resulting from ovarian failure, surgery, or specific medical conditions. Beyond hormone replacement, this medication is used for the palliative care of certain advanced breast and prostate cancers and helps prevent bone loss in postmenopausal women at high risk for osteoporosis.
How CONJUGATED ESTROGENS Works
This medication works by binding to specific nuclear receptors within estrogen-responsive tissues throughout the body. Once active, it modulates the secretion of pituitary hormones through a negative feedback mechanism, which helps reduce the elevated levels of gonadotropins typically found in postmenopausal women.
