WELLBUTRIN SR is indicated for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder.
How WELLBUTRIN SR Works
While the exact mechanism of bupropion is not fully known, its antidepressant activity is presumed to be related to noradrenergic and dopaminergic mechanisms. The drug acts as a relatively weak inhibitor of the neuronal reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine, which increases the availability of these neurotransmitters. Notably, bupropion does not inhibit the reuptake of serotonin or the activity of monoamine oxidase.
