CAROSPIR (spironolactone)

Aldosterone Antagonists Trial Activity: Declining 15 active trials
Cardiovascular Approved 2017-08-04

Carospir helps patients with advanced heart failure manage fluid buildup and improve their chances of survival while reducing the need for hospital visits. It is also used as an additional therapy for people with high blood pressure to help lower their risk of serious cardiovascular events like strokes and heart attacks. Furthermore, it treats swelling in adults with liver cirrhosis when dietary restrictions on salt and fluids are not effective.

How CAROSPIR Works

This medication works by blocking aldosterone from binding to specific receptors in the kidneys' distal tubules. This action causes the body to excrete more sodium and water while retaining potassium, which allows the drug to function as both a diuretic and a blood pressure-lowering agent.

How We Calculate These Metrics

Trial Activity Stage

Measures the current development activity pattern based on trial phases, status, and trends. Important: This measures R&D activity, not commercial lifecycle.

Trial statuses: "Active" means recruiting or ongoing. "Completed" means reached planned endpoint. "Terminated" means stopped early—often due to safety, efficacy, or business reasons.

  • Growth: High proportion of early-phase trials (Phase 1/2), active development
  • Expansion: Significant Phase 3 activity, approaching or pursuing approvals
  • Mature: Substantial Phase 4 post-marketing studies
  • Stable: Mixed phase distribution, steady development
  • Declining: Low active trial ratio, reduced R&D investment
