EPTIFIBATIDE
Eptifibatide is a platelet aggregation inhibitor used for patients experiencing acute coronary syndrome, including those with unstable angina or a specific type of heart attack known as NSTEMI. It helps patients being managed with medication alone as well as those undergoing procedures like percutaneous coronary intervention and stent placement. This medication is primarily used to reduce the risk of death, new heart attacks, or the need for urgent follow-up interventions.
How EPTIFIBATIDE Works
This drug works by preventing platelets from sticking together to form clots. It binds to the GP IIb/IIIa receptor, which blocks fibrinogen and von Willebrand factor from attaching to the platelets. This inhibition is reversible, meaning platelet function returns to normal once the intravenous infusion is stopped and the drug dissociates from the cells.
