FLOLIPID (simvastatin)
Flolipid (simvastatin) is indicated to reduce the risk of total mortality by reducing the risk of coronary heart disease death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, and the need for coronary and non-coronary revascularization procedures. It is used in adults with established coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, or diabetes who are at high risk of coronary heart disease events. Additionally, Flolipid is indicated as an adjunct to diet to reduce LDL-C in adults with primary hyperlipidemia, hypertriglyceridemia, or primary dysbetalipoproteinemia. It is also used to treat genetic forms of high cholesterol, including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) in adults and pediatric patients aged 10 years and older, and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) in adults.
How FLOLIPID Works
Simvastatin is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed after administration to its active β-hydroxyacid form, simvastatin acid. Simvastatin acid and its metabolites are competitive inhibitors of HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme responsible for the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate,
