KYLEENA (levonorgestrel)
Kyleena is a progestin-containing intrauterine system used to prevent pregnancy. It provides long-term contraception for up to five years, after which the system must be replaced if the patient wants to continue use. This device helps patients who are looking for a reliable, multi-year method of birth control.
How KYLEENA Works
This system works by continuously releasing levonorgestrel locally within the uterus to prevent pregnancy through several actions. It thickens cervical mucus to block sperm from entering the uterus and interferes with sperm survival and movement. Additionally, the drug causes changes to the lining of the uterus to further support its contraceptive effect.
