How ZOLEDRONIC Works
The primary pharmacologic action of zoledronic acid is the inhibition of bone resorption. It binds to the bone matrix and inhibits osteoclastic activity while inducing osteoclast apoptosis. This process blocks the resorption of mineralized bone and cartilage and inhibits the skeletal calcium release stimulated by various factors released by tumors.
