Understanding EGFR

What it means: EGFR is a receptor tyrosine kinase that, when mutated, drives uncontrolled cell growth. Common mutations include exon 19 deletions and L858R.
Why it matters: EGFR-mutant cancers respond dramatically to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (osimertinib, erlotinib, gefitinib).
Testing: Tested via next-generation sequencing (NGS) or PCR-based assays on tumor tissue or liquid biopsy (ctDNA).
