How ERLOTINIB HYDROCHLORIDE Works

Erlotinib reversibly inhibits the kinase activity of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) on the surface of both normal and cancer cells. By preventing the autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues associated with the receptor, it blocks downstream signaling pathways that facilitate tumor cell survival and proliferation. The drug exhibits a higher binding affinity for EGFR exon 19 deletion or exon 21 (L858R) mutations compared to the wild-type receptor.

ERLOTINIB HYDROCHLORIDE Target & Pathway

Pro

Target

EGFR (Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor) Growth Factor Receptor

A receptor that triggers cell growth, proliferation, and survival when activated. Mutations or overexpression of EGFR drive many cancers, particularly lung cancer. Blocking EGFR stops the growth signals that fuel tumor progression.
