METOPROLOL TARTRATE

Cardiovascular Approved 1993-12-21

Metoprolol tartrate helps patients with high blood pressure, which reduces the long-term risk of experiencing strokes or heart attacks. It also treats chest pain, known as angina pectoris, and is used to improve survival outcomes in stable patients following a heart attack. This medication is often used as part of a comprehensive heart health plan that includes lifestyle adjustments and other cardiovascular therapies.

How METOPROLOL TARTRATE Works

This medication works by selectively blocking beta 1 receptors in the heart, which slows the heart rate and reduces the force of its contractions. By interfering with the activity of catecholamines, it lowers the heart's demand for oxygen and decreases blood pressure. While it primarily targets the heart, it may also affect receptors in the lungs and blood vessels when used at higher concentrations.
